Frederick Frahm was born November 8, 1964 in Hemet, California. His catalog of compositions includes works for organ, chorus,numerous art songs and song cycles, 13 sinfonias for handbells, 3 chamber operas and most notably his three large scale cantatas: From East to West, War Cantata, and Grant Us Untroubled Rest. The composer's complete manuscripts, sketches and correspndence are archived in the Mortvedt Library at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, USA. Frahm is currently Director of Music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bellingham, WA where he leads a substantial music program for a 1500 member parish. As a church musician, he has served Lutheran, Episcopal and Roman Catholic parishes for more than 25 years. In addition to his duties as the Director of Music and as a private studio teacher,he has contributed to the Bellingham Herald as a classical music critic. Frahm's music for liturgy is widely performed in the US, including Easter Carol and Christ is the Bread of Life which have remained best-sellers since publication. His secular compositions have earned honors in competitions in the US and England and his recent work for piano, Sonata Moirai has received performances in the US, Europe and South Africa. Mr. Frahm has also served as an adjunct faculty member of Concordia University (River Forest, IL) where he taught modal counterpoint, music theory and composition, and orchestration. He is a graduate (BM in Church Music and MM in Organ Performance) of Pacific Lutheran University, where he studied organ and counterpoint with David Dahl, Gregory Peterson and Randall McCarty. He studied composition with Gregory Youtz (PLU), Gary Smart (University of Wyoming), Walter Pelz (Concordia University, River Forest) and Roger Briggs (Western Washington University).
