Digital Media:

A new way of interacting with composers, performers and consumers

The main problem in producing and promoting music outside of the Major labels has always been distribution. Identifying the consumers that will be interested in a specific type of music, producing content which caters to those specific needs and then getting the content to those markets was and in many respects still remains a complex question which has many logistical problems and technical pitfalls.

Essentially, the complexity of distributing the product as well as the initial investment lead to the situation in which recordings which were not expected to sell thousands of units were considered to be "bad investments", which blocked many types of music from ever being released on commercial recordings. New Music, music of lesser known composers, music by women and minorities, music by nonstandard instruments, music from cultures outside of North America and Europe.....All of these kinds of recordings and many others were considered to be unprofitable and not worth releasing.

The fact is that people DO make these types of recordings and other people DO want to hear them. While these markets are smaller than the market for more popular forms of musical expression, there are significant numbers of people who are interested in hearing this music and purchasing this music. However, the expense that artists and composers have had to outlay in order to produce the CD object in order to deliver the music and then to identify and inform the specific consumers of this product has (most of the time) been a hindrance to making these sorts of projects viable both financially and practically.

Digital Media or the delivery of content through delivery on the Internet or other related sources (cable, telephone delivery, subscription services etc.) changes all of that. By making the product directly available to the public via the Internet and by offering different possibilities of format (single works, Established CDs either in digital or in standard object form, or allowing the consumer the possibility to make his or her own choice of a selection of works and selling that in a personalized CD compilation), the problems of stock, of delivering the objects to stores, of having to outlay upfront production costs Esc become obsolete. The music becomes more directly profitable both to the creators and performers and in addition, the consumer is able to select exactly the type of music that he or she is looking for.

Musik Fabrik is proud to be able to offer a service to all of our clients: performers, composers and consumers, which allows us to streamline this process and get our musical products to the people who are looking for them. We are currently working with an International group of partners to create a new ways of delivering digital media, the first stage of which is beginning now with our new sales platform.

We are actively seeking content to complete our catalogue, with a focus on performances of either works already in our catalogue, unpublished works for which the composer is seeking publication or works in the public domain. We have contacts to other musical professionals who are able to assist with the same sort of services for artists who work outside of the classical music field (pop music, rock, country, jazz, etc.).

In the coming months, new services which use other forms of digital delivery and innovative forms of musical marketing will be added to the current platform. Please check back here to see our latest news and contact us at info@classicalmusicnow.com for any questions.
