Antoine TISNÉ
Antoine Tisné's first musical revelation was hearing the organ at the Cathedral of Tarbes when he was a small child, an experiement which gave him a taste for large masses of sound and works based on sacred and spiritual themes. He left his native Lourdes and went to Paris to the National Superior Music Conservatory where he entered the composition courses in 1952. His studies with Georges Hugon, Noel Gallon but especially Darius Milhaud and André Jolivet allowed him to understand the musical principals of the past as well as to imagine the musical styles of the future. His musical output, which touches all forms of musical expression, from the simple teaching pieces he wrote for friends during his period as Musical Inspector for the French Cultural ministry to Opera, Oratorio, Concerti and Symphones, is a vast exploration of how the art of music relates to mystical thought and especially of the position of Man in the Cosmos. Works such as Offertorium pour Chartres and the series of Monodies pour des Espaces Sacrés explore the sound landscapes of the great French Cathedrals. Alta Mira and Music for Stonehenge express the composer's ideas about prehistoric man and his need for artistic expression. Chant pour Un Autre Galaxie and Hymne pour Notre Temps are expressions of the composer's view of science and the future. Antoine Tisné died in 1998 in Paris. |
